Brian Serff’s paintings are inspired by his travels. He grew up in London during World War II surviving the bombing raids, worked an apprenticeship as a still life and lettering artist for a Fine Art Printer in London and served in the Royal Air Force in Scotland amongst the glens and mountains. Brian walked and climbed throughout England and Europe and was a member of a climbing expedition in Afghanistan. In 1965 Brian came to the United States as a climbing instructor with the Colorado Outward Bound School, then married and raised a family in Colorado.
Brian established his graphic art business in 1971 which flourished due to his versatility of training from the basics of grinding and mixing paints to illustration, layout, design, advertising, package design, computer graphics and all aspects of artwork.
During Brian’s world travels his photographic talent became apparent capturing the unusual details, majestic mountains, towering canyons, and roaring rivers along with the old world charm of the European countryside and architecture. He has trekked numerous times in Nepal which has inspired colorful images of the people and life in the Himalayas.
Brian also has a great love and respect for the outdoors being an avid hiker, skier, river runner and mountain biker - all of which has given him ample opportunities to enjoy photography. He then transforms them into water color paintings. His many subjects include portraits of people and pets, landscapes, mountains and flowers. Now retired, Brian has the time to devote to his painting, bringing his own large photographic library to life through the use of watercolors.
